Thoroughly enjoyed reading this Lannie and learned so much about the history of Samarkland. I love your stories! The taxi driver sounds a bit of a character! had never heard of an astronomical sextant before but am full of admiration for the way it was built and the ingenious approach to tackling the problems. Wonderful pics too!

The architecture in Samarkand is just stunning! I would be wandering around those nooks and crannies that you mentioned for hours! Thanks for sharing this beautiful place. I am left with a nagging question though – did you ever get your driver to stop for a bathroom break? 🙂
