This was interesting to read, Lannie! I didn’t realize this was an option in the U.S. When I returned to Hong Kong in March 2020, they gave me a deep throat saliva test (as they call it here) kit at the airport which I had to return a few days after I’d been in quarantine. It kind of looked like this one, though I didn’t spit near as much! I always wondered how effective they are and why other places didn’t have that instead of the invasive nose and throat swabs. I’ve never had either of those, but they look awful. Good to know other places are using them as well and glad you got to spend Thanksgiving with your family!

Hey Stefan! Actually, all US guidelines are just that – “guidelines” and “advisories”. California says you “should” quarantine for 14 days on arrival. So if they are lax, then even though I’m being super cautious, I can allow myself to be released early!!

Lots of useful information, Lannie, and love how you added a fun touch to it with the ‘Wear a Mask’ slide show. Some serious rapper potential there in those moves. Very good point about the incubation… It makes sense to isolate for a few days before doing the test. I had to do the whole two weeks (plus one day) quarantine when I flew back from Vienna to London and found it rather annoying. At least back then they didn’t allow for negative test results to shorten the quarantine, not sure if they do now (here in the UK).

Great information about the spit test. This isn’t available in Australia that I’m aware of. Both Dave and I had to have the nose and throat swab when we had bad coughs. Thankfully it was negative.

After the drama surrounding your feet last week I was half expecting an action shot of you using the spit test. Thankfully it didn’t happen. 😃 this sounds a much better option to the horrible alternative. I can still feel the swab in my brain after 9 months. Well worth the $140 dollars.
