Hello! Welcome to Lannie’s Food and Travel Guide. I’m your host and writer, Lannie. For those who don’t know me, this section is for you to get to know a little about me. I am a lifelong wanderer, searching for meaningful experiences and delicious foods in different places. Professionally, I am a humanitarian based in a conflict zone. I love what I do, and I also love traveling out often for my mental health!
I originally created this blog in 2018, when I was leading a nomadic life, traveling the world. It used to be updated more often during that time to share my frequent travels with my friends and family who were following along the way. Now, my food and travel blog is to give a glimpse into a world that most people do not see.
Recently, I’ve made the gorgeous Isle of Islay, in Scotland, my home base. There are few places in the world where a one week’s visit could enchant you so much where you buy a wee property there 6 months later.
Having now blogged for three years, I love being a part of the travel blogging community on social media. I host #TravelBlogTuesday on Twitter every Tuesday, along with my friend and Irish travel blogger, John from Carpe Diem Eire. I love being part of the travel blogging community!
My Modus Operandi of Traveling:
My “MO” of traveling has changed over the years, especially now, bureaucracy, approvals, and delays often get in the way of my ability to plan my travels ahead.
My travels usually center around food, amazing weather, hiking, history and culture, magical sunsets, and now, phenomenal whisky. Food tourism is something I’m passionate about – understanding a place through its local foods and food traditions. Scotland has amazed me in this regard, which is still such a hidden foodie gem. I’m excited to share more of my foodie adventures in Scotland with you.
I love islands and the coast anywhere, but there is just something really special about both Scottish islands and tropical islands – despite being completely different.
I typically prefer to go to destinations “off the beaten path” so that I can properly unwind without traffic jams and the plethora of tourists crowding around.
There are also some things I do, which is a kind of a balance of opposites. I love fine dining, often seeking out restaurants on the Michelin list or the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. I also absolutely love a culture’s street foods, which are vibrant and fun and always delicious!
For lodging, I love doing a mix of staying in luxury hotels and locally run bed and breakfasts, which depend on several factors which include: money, (hotel) points balance, length of stay, whether I want a kitchen or a washing machine, etc.
Most often, you will find me traveling solo and I thrive in its freedoms. It’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely for me.
If my MO of traveling fits your tourism company, brand, or product, maybe we should collaborate!
